The emerging generation of AI agents, and Alipay's recent move to embed such an agent natively into its wallet, reframes that problem. Instead of asking consumers to live inside one giant application, the new question is whether an intelligent intermediary can stitch together services across apps, merchants and contexts so effectively that the experience becomes super-app-like without requiring a monolithic front end.

Why super apps flourished in China but stalled elsewhere
