Investopedia explains ‘N.V. (NV or Naamloze Vennootschap)’
Literally, “naamloze vennootschap” means “nameless venture,” since the shareholders in a public company can remain anonymous. Stocks of such a company trade on an exchange.
This is the opposite of besloten vennootschap (an “exclusive” or “closed partnership”), which is a private limited company. Stocks of such a company are not for sale on the open market.
