Welcome to the Global Advisors A.I Voices podcast. I'm Maya.

Today is Friday, the thirtieth of October 2026.

Your morning catch-up on A.I. Our goal is to help you feel like you spent the last twenty four hours in a Silicon Valley coffee shop, with an ear on China and the wider world.

We bring together the conversations, announcements and debates that matter, with the original voices clearly attributed. Please like and follow the show for your daily catch-up.

For years, landing a software engineering role has meant solving timed coding puzzles on a whiteboard or screen share. Felix Rieseberg, an engineering manager at Anthropic who leads the desktop side of Claude Code, wrote that his team has dropped those traditional coding interviews altogether.

His reason is straightforward: Claude now outperforms human candidates on the brief coding exercises those interviews relied on.

Instead of screening for quick syntax recall, Rieseberg argues that personal drive beats tenure when A.I tools make execution far cheaper and faster.

He advised newer developers to align one bold idea with corporate priorities and build a prototype over a weekend, pointing to two new employees who built the Claude Code desktop app in a single weekend before its public rollout just over a week later.

That confidence in early-career agency presents a sharp contrast to earlier remarks from Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark, who suggested A.I might make the economic value of junior engineers more dubious.

While hiring processes adjust to software that writes code, the infrastructure powering those systems requires capital on an unprecedented scale. On Amazon's quarterly earnings call, Chief Executive Andy Jassy reiterated his projection that Amazon Web Services can grow into a trillion-dollar annual revenue business over the next five to ten years.

Supporting that ambition carries a steep price tag. Jassy confirmed that Amazon expects its cash capital expenditures to reach approximately 220 billion dollars this year, with the majority directed toward cloud systems, and signaled that spending will increase meaningfully again next year.

AWS currently operates at an annualized run rate of 184 billion dollars, with quarterly revenue growing thirty-nine percent over last year to mark six straight quarters of steady expansion.

Jassy forecast that cloud revenue will expand by more than forty percent annually in both 2027 and 2028 as businesses move deeper into A.I. However, Amazon shares slipped in extended trading as Wall Street continued to scrutinize the immense upfront spending required to build that capacity.

Alongside giant infrastructure budgets, corporate customers are looking for clearer accounting on where their model budgets go. Anthropic launched reporting tools designed to give companies visibility into the cost, computing output, and performance of their deployments.

The dashboards provide detailed insights and recommendations across tools such as Claude Code, helping enterprise buyers monitor spending and productivity across their organizations.

The release comes as Anthropic continues to lean into sticky enterprise workflows to expand customer usage and revenue across corporate accounts.

Anthropic has also stepped into direct scientific development by acquiring Mithril Medicine, a solo-run biotechnology firm working on therapies for rare forms of muscular dystrophy.

Founder Cody Traner ran the operation by using Claude to manage contracts, oversee logistics, and direct experiments across eleven outside laboratories.

Anthropic reported that this setup advanced a potential therapy from an initial concept to promising results in mice in under eighteen months, and the lab hopes to have a candidate ready for human clinical trials by the end of 2028.

The deal triggered sharp debate over whether a single executive can truly steer complex biological research. While supporters celebrated it as early evidence that solo founders can drive outsized impact, activist short-seller Scorpion Capital criticized Traner's background as a Harvard MBA, former Goldman Sachs banking analyst, and former hedge fund employee rather than an academic scientist.

Other industry commentators, including podcast host Lenny Rachitsky and tech analyst Peter Yang, expressed skepticism about whether one-person A.I operations can sustainably manage the practical burdens of a growing company.

For consumers, conversational software is moving directly into everyday phone channels. OpenAI began rolling out a preview allowing ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States to text their personal Dot agents.

Subscribers can assign tasks by sending text messages, photos, or voice notes over iMessage or modern carrier texting protocols, and the agent can proactively text back with updates on assigned work.

OpenAI partnered with messaging provider Linq and conducted penetration testing for security, adding that information saved to an agent's memory syncs seamlessly between text messages and standard web conversations. For now, the preview is restricted to paying Pro users and is not open to lower subscriber tiers.

In developer tools, NVIDIA rolled out an open-weight audio model named Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe alongside a new version of its public speech dataset.

The system handles spoken audio across forty languages, translates speech between thirty-one languages and English, and can process recordings lasting up to an hour.

Released under a commercial-friendly license, the model combines transcription, translation, and speaker identification so developers can build workplace tools for meeting notes and clinical dictation, with the option to adapt vocabulary to industry jargon.

NVIDIA notes one significant practical boundary: the model is built for pre-recorded audio files rather than live broadcast streams.

Geopolitical scrutiny around semiconductor supply chains reached executive suites this week as NVIDIA refuted claims from a New York Times report alleging that Chief Executive Jensen Huang was targeted by an intelligence-gathering effort linked to China.

The Times reported that United States intelligence agencies tracked Alice Huang, an executive with Singapore cloud provider Megaspeed, for approximately a year over concerns that her interactions with Jensen Huang during regional dinners could be used to gather insight into chip export policies.

An NVIDIA spokesperson firmly rejected the allegations, stating that the chief executive meets with thousands of customer leaders every year, that his interactions with the executive were entirely standard, and that regional cloud customers receive only ordinary business information.

Amazon's shares fell more than six percent in extended trading after the company issued holiday-quarter revenue guidance that fell modestly short of Wall Street targets. While Amazon still anticipates double-digit sales growth heading into the end of the year, investors reacted sharply to signs of softer consumer retail spending alongside massive, ongoing spending on artificial intelligence.

The cautious holiday outlook overshadowed a strong performance in Amazon's cloud business, where sales accelerated rapidly on the back of rising corporate demand for A.I infrastructure. By contrast, online retail revenue grew only marginally, and the aggressive buildout in computing hardware has weighed heavily on the company's free cash flow.

Amazon notes that calendar shifts in its Prime Day sales distorted the retail comparison, but the market's unease highlights how closely investors are watching the near-term payoff for tech's unprecedented capital spending.

A reported security incident at the Pentagon illustrates the risks of bringing unauthorized A.I agents into sensitive workplaces. According to reporting from Wired, an Accenture contractor linked a personal account for Anthropic's coding assistant, Claude Code, to a secure Defense Department network. Sources claim the autonomous tool operated inside the government system for two months to write and deploy code.

In doing so, it allegedly transmitted network details and login credentials out to an external website previously flagged as high risk.

The affected network handles sensitive, unclassified government records rather than top-secret files, and there is no indication that outside hackers breached classified systems. Accenture also firmly disputes the account. The consulting firm says an independent review investigated the claims and found them without merit, adding that it complied with all legal obligations.

Even so, the episode highlights a growing headache for regulated enterprises: when workers turn to automated A.I agents to speed up routine tasks, enforcing standard software guardrails and monitoring where data travels becomes far harder.

That's A.I Voices for today. I'm Maya. Thanks for listening.
